State of the art laboratory

Collaborate with us

The UTS Single Cell Technology Facility was created with one idea in mind - to increase the accessibility of single cell technology to researchers and industry partners across Australia.

Our facility is located within a new section of the Faculty of Science building, in a certified OGTR PC2 laboratory. It features state-of-the-art technology for multiomic single cell resolution analyses and contains:

  • Sample preparation areas with dedicated bench space and equipment to accommodate diverse workflows for tissue dissociation
  • Cell sorting room equipped for Fluorescent-Activated Cell Sorting (FACS) and Magnetic-Activated Cell Sorting (MACS)
  • Pre-PCR room featuring the 10x Chromium iX and BD Rhapsody™ for single cell capture and reverse transcription
  • Post-PCR room with real-time and digital PCR instruments and six multi-well PCR machines for high-throughput library preparation

We offer a range of single cell service options for researchers and industry partners, including:

  1. Experimental design
  2. Cell sorting by fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) or magnetic-activated cell sorting (MACS)
  3. Single cell experiments from cell capture to library processing
  4. Submission of libraries for sequencing

What single cell experiments do we offer?

We offer expert services for single cell experiments on two leading single cell platforms, 10x Genomics Chromium and BD Rhapsody™. Together, these platforms allow us to offer a diverse range of single cell experiments validated in our facility, including:

  • Gene expression
  • Immune profiling
  • Chromatin accessibility
  • Multiomic analyses

We are constantly working to expand the portfolio of protocols we offer, so please contact us to discuss the availability of any platforms or techniques which may not be listed above.

Learn about the technologies we have available

Our facility brings together leading single cell platforms and the latest technology to support every step of a single cell experiment.

10 x Genomics Chromium

10x Genomics Chromium iX

  • Harnesses proprietary microfluidics technology to partition and barcode hundreds to thousands of cells or nuclei
  • Measures gene expression, chromatin accessibility, cell surface proteins, immune clonotype, antigen specificity, and CRISPR perturbation screens

BD Rhapsody system

BD Rhapsody™ Single Cell Analysis System

The BD Rhapsody™ Single Cell Analysis System includes the BD Rhapsody™ Scanner and BD Rhapsody™ Express Single-Cell Analysis System.

BD Rhapsody™ Scanner:
  • Allows us to visualise all steps of the single cell capture workflow
  • Provides us with detailed quality control metrics, such as cell viability, cell capture rate and cell multiplet rate, at every step
BD Rhapsody™ Express System:
  • Uses microwell-based single cell partitioning technology
  • Facilitates single cell capture and barcoding of hundreds to thousands of single cells for transcriptome and proteome analysis

How to get started

Interested in our services? Our facility is open to all researchers and industry partners in Australia, and we welcome all collaboration opportunities. If you would like to chat about an upcoming project, please don't hesitate to get in contact with us.

Projects typically involve 5 steps.

  1. Introductory meeting
  2. Sample preparation and submission at UTS
  3. Single cell capture and library generation
  4. Library multiplexing and submission at an external sequencing provider
  5. Data distribution by the sequencing provider

Get in touch

We're here to help so please contact us via email for any general enquiries, project or technology questions or collaboration opportunities. We also welcome any feedback or suggestions for our facility.
