This project investigates the challenges of establishing an ecological reserve network across multiple scales in the Cobar Peneplain Bioregion in western New South Wales, while allowing and strengthening social engagement with a variety of unique sites. 

The Cobar Peneplain Bioregion is currently under-represented within the Australian National Parks reserve network, with only 2.9 per cent of the total land area protected under various conservation schemes. This is a major issue, as the Cobar Peneplain Bioregion supports 19 flora and 43 fauna species that are listed as endangered or vulnerable. 

The project proposes both top-down and bottom-up approaches to strategically implementing a reserve network over decades. It also highlights the need for social and cultural (especially Indigenous) involvement throughout the implementation and realisation of the plan, with the aim of increasing the social value and appreciation of the Cobar Peneplain Bioregion across the wider community.
