Integration was the capstone project for the Bachelor of Design in Architecture degree. The studio focused on the integration of design, technical and structural systems to a very high level of resolution, focusing on a small scale public building. In 2015, the brief required students to consider the design of a ‘perfect’ new home for the UTS School of Architecture on Harris Street. Students were challenged, through a two-stage competition format on a tight urban site, to consider a new pedagogic model for architectural education and the design of a new school building to support it. Outcomes imagined the way in which teaching spaces, programs, structure, building services, and circulation might all come together to reconfigure, literally and metaphorically, our understanding of an architecture school.
