Young at heart, high in rankings
You might not know it, but we’ve only been around since 1988, which makes us the same age as Adele and Rihanna. But being young doesn't limit us. If anything, it means we strive to do even more.
In fact, we ranked #1 in the QS Top 50 under 50 Australian rankings. And in the 2021 Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Ranking, we jumped a huge thirty-four places, making us one of the top ten universities in the world under 50. (We placed first in Australia btw).
We get you into work
Ready to get your foot in the door? We've got it covered for you. The 2022 edition of the QS World University Rankings: Graduate Employability placed us 5th in Australia and 62nd in the world for graduate employability. With 787 universities assessed from across the world, that puts us in the top 8% of unis ranked.
On top of that, according to NSW business leaders and government*, we’re the most industry-focused university in metro Sydney. With contacts in the organisations that might employ you one day, we blend the world of work and study by fostering start-ups and entrepreneurship, helping out with internships, offering volunteer opportunities and solving industry problems in the classroom.
Our research ranks highly
80% of our research areas are rated as ‘high impact’ and 100% of our research ranks at world standard or above.
Our research performance was also highlighted by the CWTS Leiden Ranking 2021, a world ranking of more than 1200 universities which focuses on scientific impact and research collaboration. For the fifth year, the Leiden ranking placed UTS as number one in Australia for our proportion of research appearing in the top 10 percent of most-cited publications in scientific fields. We’re not just a place to get a degree, we’re about pushing research and knowledge to better the world. And the proof is in the numbers.
We rank well in general university rankings too
We think the proof is in the numbers. We were named as the world’s 133rd best university in the eighteenth edition of the QS World University Rankings. Out of 1,300 institutions ranked by QS, UTS performed among the top 11 per cent, and was the ninth highest ranked Australian university.
To be truly honest, university life is so much more than a ranking. Being on campus, meeting new people and being exposed to new ideas can’t totally be summarised by just a rank. But what they show is that we’re getting great outcomes for students and, at the same time, contributing to new research and ideas that help shape the world.
