What is studying law really like?
Suits, Legally Blonde, and Brooklyn 99. There are lots of shows about the legal world and what a career in law looks like. But how close are they to the truth? We had a chat with some of our law students to hear what they had to say about studying a law degree at UTS.
1. It’s not all books
Learning legal theory is important, but so is putting it into practice! At UTS, we want to make sure you not only know the law, but know how to apply it. Mock court presentations, problem-based questions and practical assignments, mean you get the practical experience you need.
2. It’s not all traditional law
There’s more to a law degree than meets the eye. At UTS, you’ll be able to participate in extra curricula activities that explore new and emerging areas of the law. Think AI, technology, social justice and human rights. Whatever you’re interested in, there’s a law course for you.
3. It’s not all easy
It the famous words of Elle Woods, ‘what, like its hard?’ Sometimes studying a law degree can be challenging. There’s some tough content to wrap your head around, and it might not always be smooth sailing. Luckily, at UTS, there is are a range of support services to help you out. Whether it’s attending a U:PASS class or a skills workshop, you’ll be in good hands.
4. It’s all here
Ready to go to Court? Before you can be admitted as a lawyer, you’ll need to undertake Practical Legal Training. The best bit? It’s offered right here at UTS. You’ll be able to leave uni ready to take on the legal world.
