Campus and facilities
You’ll spend many hours on campus – almost like a second home so we make sure you’re comfortable and connected. Not only, will you feel at home, you’ll also have the best facilities to support your scientific endeavour.
Our campus
UTS is located in the heart of Sydney, one of the world most vibrant, friendly and liveable cities. Our campus is within easy walking distance to buses and train stations and surrounded by places to shop, eat, socialise and relax.
UTS has many spaces, from study spaces to showers and computer labs to cafés, there are hundreds of different facilities on campus to accommodate teaching, research, student and staff spaces. The campus includes the Alumni Green, five student residences and two childcare centres to support our community. Watch the campus video to see it for yourself.
Student spaces
Whatever you need, you’ll find the right kind of space somewhere on the UTS campus – just to hangout, quiet study, group work, outdoor spaces. Most spaces offer Wi-Fi connectivity so you’re never out of touch.
Computer labs and access
No matter where you’re studying on campus, you’ll have access to the technology and software that you need. Computer labs and access are available to UTS students for study, learning and research purposes. Many of the labs are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and are near printers.
Library
The UTS Library is at the heart of the action, offering a vast catalogue both online and offline. You can find computers, loanable laptops, printers, lockers, and bookable spaces for group or individual work. Or maybe you’re just looking for an inspiring study space.
Science and mathematics facilities
UTS Science has one of the best science facilities in Australia, equipping its labs with advanced instruments and equipment for its students to access.
Teaching laboratories
No matter what discipline of science you’re studying, our teaching laboratories and technical staff will support your learning journey. They’re fitted out with the latest in scientific and analytical equipment, as well as e-lecterns and computers.
Maths and Computing facilities
Mathematics and statistics students access industry-standard software, e-learning support and advanced computing facilities. UTS collaborates closely with the Australian Centre for Advanced Computing and Communication (Ac3).
UTS Super Lab
Why is it call the UTS Super Lab? It’s super because it is super in size – it can accommodate over 200 students in a session, and it’s also super multi-functional because we can conduct 12 different classes – biology, chemistry and physics (wet and dry experiments) at the same time, and it is also super because it is the first of its kind in Australia.
Crime Scene Simulation Lab
It might look like a city apartment, but the Crime Scene Simulation Lab is much more. You’ll gain hands-on experience with fingerprinting, evidence collection and a range of detection techniques and get a taste of life as a forensic investigator.
Australian Facility for Taphonomic Experimental Research (AFTER)
Our AFTER facility is the only one of its kind in Australia. The unique body donation facility enables UTS forensic students to study the decomposition of human remains from the time of death to the time of discovery, to solve problems surrounding the physical, chemical, and biological processes of human decomposition.
Stroud Field Station
Field excursions are common activities for our environmental and marine students, so it make sense that we have a field station in Stroud, located near Newcastle, NSW. Stroud provides access to forests, rivers, bugs and animals in their natural environment, which is essential to our courses.
Our environmental and marine students also take their learning to interesting and fascinating research sites such as Heron Island, One Tree Island and the Great Barrier Reef.
Science research labs
Research is essential in science and technology to make sure we’re learning the latest discovery and inquiry.
At UTS Science, we invest in research facilities that align with our research areas of focus. Check out our research facilities.
