Graduate Diploma in Midwifery key dates
The UTS Graduate Diploma in Midwifery is an industry-leading course designed to open up a path for registered nurses to a successful career in midwifery.
To be eligible to study this course, there's a series of steps for you to complete during the year.
Here’s your quick guide to becoming a midwife:
If you’re a registered nurse looking to become a midwife, our Graduate Diploma in Midwifery is the course for you.
Here are a few steps you must take in the year before commencement, in order to be eligible for a position in the course at UTS.
From April, you should begin your research into application dates and course details.
Dates can change every year and it’s important to keep track of your responsibilities.
Be sure to check the NSW Health MidStart website for information and application dates, or enquire with NSW private maternity hospital providers.
You can also attend an information session at UTS to find out about the Graduate Diploma in Midwifery, and how to apply.
In June, it’ll be time to get your MidStart application in.
Be sure to find out all your application responsibilities and put effort into your application, as this will be what secures you an interview for a midwifery student position.
After MidStart is sorted, it’s time to submit your UTS application online.
The application window may vary each year, but is typically from the middle of July to the 31st of October.
Note that applications received after the 31st may not be considered, so please be sure to get your application in before then.
In July, you’ll be notified if you were successful in attaining an interview for your midwifery student position.
Put your best foot forward to let them know why you should have the opportunity to take on such an important role.
In August you’ll find out your employment outcome, and it’ll be time to let us know if you were successful.
Without a midwifery student position you will be ineligible to take the course, so please be sure to let us know your result as soon as you do.
From there, we’ll let you know if you’ve been successful in securing a place at UTS.
Keep an eye on your emails!
When you hear from us, please respond by accepting or declining the offer.
If you are successful, it’ll soon be time to start at UTS.
Your first subject will be before the typical academic year, and we will send you all the information you need about starting the course via email.
For more information about any of these steps, please head to the MidStart and UTS websites and download additional resources.
Good luck with your application, and we hope to see you at UTS soon.
