So you want to become a Registered Nurse? You've chosen a great career. At UTS, we’re (literally) leading the way when it comes to nursing education in Australia. Here's why:
We emphasise hands-on study
All our courses emphasise hands-on practice, which means you’ll be applying theoretical knowledge in a range of clinical scenarios — think simulations, case studies and professional placements — from early in your degree.
Our purpose-built spaces
Our teaching facilities and clinical practice labs have been built to mimic real-world clinical environments. Test your skills on lifelike mannikins in simulated hospital rooms, study in purpose-built classrooms, or relax in collaborative student study lounges that have been designed with you in mind. These spaces are part of a UTS-wide redevelopment that’s transformed our campus into a student-centric, fit-for-purpose educational environment — so you can take your learning with you everywhere you go.
Practice makes perfect
Practice-based learning is at the heart of our health education. We've developed a placement program that will lead you to success. With us, you'll gain 800+ hours of hands-on experience in some of our 100+ partner hospitals and health clinics across greater Sydney before graduating as a nurse.
Ready to lead
With an undergraduate nursing degree, you’ll get a taste of fundamental and specialist nursing roles in a range of health care settings in preparation for registration as a nurse. After graduation, you’ll spend some time in the workforce, building on your skills and experience. How long that takes is up to you – when you’re ready to take on a leadership role, our postgraduate degrees will help you build your leadership potential.

Graduate Attributes
Thirteen years of your schooling life seems to be so easily summarised by one single number this being our ticket into the university system. When we get to uni we still do assessment briefs, or take exams and go for good marks in grades but how do these numbers help us without development as individuals and our readiness for the real world.
At UTS they try to help us develop important graduate attributes to become well-rounded professionals whatever that may be.
There are six main graduate attributes specific to nursing in the Faculty of Health. We extra feedback about our development of these over our course. These help us to become great nurses, that hospitals and health centres want to employ and importantly, people that patients and families love to work with. We know this because consumers hospitals and health centres have worked with our faculty to develop them. An example of these attributes is professional competence which equips us with knowledge skills and attitudes to ensure a safe and effective nursing practice.
Another attribute is communication and collaboration. This ensures we can communicate and collaborate effectively and respectfully with diverse groups of people. There is also one graduate attributes that is developed across all Faculty of Health courses. This has a specific focus on helping us develop professional cultural competency. This means that together we can contribute to the physical, social, emotional and spiritual health and well-being of Indigenous Australians.
These graduate attributes help us to become the professionals we want to be and make sure we are relevant and ready for our chosen future the moment we walk out the door.
