WHO CC Intern: Dominique Vardalos
Dominique is currently completing her final semester in a Bachelor of Health Science, majoring in Public Health at UTS. She is passionate about health equity in accessing healthcare, and the effects of the social determinants of health on chronic diseases. As an intern at WHO CC UTS, Dominique liaised with WHO CC staff members in reformatting and proofreading the Diploma of General Nursing curriculum. Additionally, she assisted in collecting and analysing data, preparing for events, and creating subject planning overview templates.
One of Dominique’s highlights was helping to update the list of the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centres. WHO CC was elected as the Secretariat for GNWHOCCNM (2022-2026). Currently there are 43 collaborating centres. The list was vital in being published in the LINKS Magazine (Magazine for GNWHOCCNM) and will be sent to WHO. She also created various resources for the workshop for Strengthening Health Workforce Education in PNG project, including name tags for the Community Health Worker (CHW) and Nursing colleagues from PNG, drafting house rules, sign-in sheets, and certificates.
Additionally, she performed literature searches; collecting and collating background and ethics information for Faculty Development Survey in line with the Strengthening Health Workforce Education in PNG project.
During Dominique’s time at WHO CC UTS, she further developed her writing skills and data collection skills and was able to utilise her public health knowledge that she has gained throughout her degree.
Dominique thoroughly enjoyed her time at the Centre as it was invaluable industry experience, and she is looking forward to using the knowledge that she has gained in her future career within the public health sector.
