Welcoming Associate Professor Jenny Sim
The WHO CC UTS would like to formally welcome Associate Professor Jenny Sim. Jenny is an experienced academic and nurse researcher with a national and international reputation in patient safety research and research that measures the outcomes of nursing practice.
Prior to working with us she has held positions in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Newcastle and in the School of Nursing at the University of Wollongong. Jenny continues to hold Honorary Associate Professor positions in both those Schools and in the Australian Health Services Research Institute (AHSRI) at the University of Wollongong. Prior to her academic roles, Jenny worked as a clinician, nurse manager and nurse leader in the South-Eastern Sydney & Illawarra Local Health District.
Jenny’s interest in research began during her time as a Director of Nursing of a hospital in southern NSW. Jenny’s PhD was born out of her frustration that there was limited data that captured the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes and therefore sought to examine how the quality and safety of nursing practice could be measured.
Jenny’s current research focuses on preventing avoidable adverse events such as pressure injuries, falls and healthcare associated infections as well as improving nurse staffing and the nursing practice environment. Jenny has a pragmatic approach to research and has experience in a wide range of research methodologies and methods including the translation of research findings into practice settings. Jenny also has a significant research profile in the scholarship of learning and teaching and brings with her significant teaching and curriculum development expertise.
Additionally, Jenny completed the prestigious International Council of Nurses, Global Nursing Leadership Institute in 2021 and is passionate about leading global change in nursing to ensure access for all to high quality healthcare. Jenny takes this passion into every aspect of her work and aims to be a transformative leader, an outstanding research supervisor, an excellent teacher and a great teammate and colleague who invests time and energy into mentoring and supporting others to achieve their goals.
