The Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) National Conference was held from 22-24 October, 2024 at The Roundhouse, University of New South Wales, Sydney, under the theme of “Solidarity and Resilience: The Power of the Collective”. The WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Development, University of Technology Sydney (WHO CC NM UTS) are honored to have been a part of the conference, contributing to important discussions on how better to improve solidarity and resilience for sustainable and equitable development.
More than ever, global problems including geopolitical crises, climate disasters, and increasing civic pressures are forcing us to come together. The conference was a wonderful opportunity in addressing what it means to collaborate but work together in solidarity towards solving these compounding global issues. Empowerment, active support, and resource-sharing were all recognized as critical and have always been part of the Centre’s approach in its work towards universal health coverage and health for all.
Anna Gero, Research Director of the Institute for Sustainable Futures, UTS spoke on multisectoral approaches to achieving climate resilience in the Pacific.
WHO CC NM UTS will continue to build regional solidarity and resilience in its work towards universal health coverage and health for all in the region has always prioritised intersectoral, local-empowering, resource-sharing, and collaborative approaches, and will continue to do so.
