Regional change get together at UTS
The new Research Excellence and Support Hub at UTS was launched on Monday, 3rd of May with a series of exciting events and sessions to celebrate. Staff from UTS WHO CC attended a session titled: What really matters for international development research impact? Insights from external research commissioners.
The session, chaired by Dr Keren Winterford included three panellists: Dr Stephanie Williams, Ambassador for Regional Health Security at the Indo-Pacific Centre for Health Security; George Goddard, Research, Learning and Influence Lead at Engineers Without Borders; and Mel Dunn, Vice President of Strategy and Innovation at DT Global.
The breakdown of funding allocation, examples of established successful projects, barriers to research, what makes a good proposal stand out and key components for impactful research, were discussed by the three panellists. All panellists agreed that the best research proposals have the intention to disseminate research into real applications and the capacity for adaptive management. They also stressed the importance of the researchers developing strong relationships with participating nations to ensure that knowledge generated has co-ownership and the capacity of the in-country partners can be built.
