The 2023 Yonsei International Nursing Conference (YINC) was held from the 5th to 7th of October in Seoul, South Korea. The conferences focused on challenges related to finding appropriate technological solutions to achieve the goal of health equity in underdeveloped countries. Under the overarching theme of "Nursing and Midwifery in a Digital World," Prof. Michele Rumsey, Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Development, at the University of Technology, Sydney, presented on the use of appropriate technology in Nursing and Midwifery workforce development.
Prof. Rumsey's presentation explored emerging trends in Nursing and Midwifery and the potential impact of technology including Ai, telehealth and digital health. Telehealth and remote monitoring were discussed, illustrating how these technologies bridge geographical constraints between healthcare providers and patients, which can be utilised in rural and remote settings. Prof. Rumsey emphasised the potential opportunities of E-learning and skill development, such as the impact of virtual platforms and programs in nursing education. These tools help expand knowledge through their comprehensiveness and improved accessibility.
Prof Rumsey’s visit to Seoul also became an opportunity to visit colleagues at Yonsei Universities WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training for Nursing Development in Primary Health Care. Their meeting explored strategies for establishing successful global partnerships and collaborations, highlighting the significance of nurturing partnerships among diverse institutions.
