Jumbunna HDR Opportunities
The Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research seeks students interested in addressing the following focus areas:
- achieving strategic research outcomes that are Indigenous specific
- producing the highest quality research on Indigenous legal and policy issues and to develop highly skilled Indigenous researchers
- building strategic alliances with community-based organisations.
Strengthening Indigenous Communities students will undertake research around legal and policy issues that impact heavily on Indigenous Australians. Students interested in undertaking research with the Centre should contact the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research in the first instance.
Higher Degree Research Opportunities
Master’s by Research
Standard Duration: 2 years
A master’s by research is a specialist degree in which students produce an original piece of research under academic supervision. This qualification supports students to deepen their existing expertise and interests in a specific discipline area, and to develop a wealth of skills relevant to both industry and academic career paths.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Standard Duration: 4 years
A PhD is an internationally recognised qualification awarded to students who successfully undertake a four-year intensive research program. PhD students must produce an original thesis that makes a significant contribution to their chosen field. They work closely with an academic supervisor and, in some cases, with industry collaborators.
A PhD is the first step in an academic career. It is also highly valued in industry; graduates are recognised as experts in their field.
Doctor of Creative Arts
Standard Duration: 4 years
The Doctor of Creative Arts (DCA) is available through the UTS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. It is aimed at creative arts graduates with a significant record of achievement in the media and/or creative arts, and who want to undertake substantial research in the areas of media and creative production.
Doctor of Education
Standard Duration: 4 years
The Doctor of Education is available through the UTS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. It is aimed at education professionals with an in interest in using research to expand and enhance their practice. Doctor of Education students deliver a practice-based research project on a designated topic, preparing them for senior roles in the education industry or for an academic career.
Industry doctoral degrees
Standard Duration: 3 years
Industry doctoral students embark on research programs that solve real-world problems for our industry partners, and graduate with skills and professional networks that are highly relevant to their future careers. Industry degrees are available through the UTS Industry Doctorate Program (PhD only).
