AI Fundamentals for Lawyers

HTI, with the support of LexisNexis, has developed an eLearning course that aims to equip lawyers in Australia with strategic expertise in AI.

This course responds to the transformative impact AI is having on legal practice, with lawyers relying on an ever-growing range of AI-powered products and services. At the same time, lawyers are increasingly being asked to advise clients seeking to use AI lawfully and responsibly, as well as clients affected by AI deployed by others.

Participants will initially undertake a 60-90 minute online course, Fundamentals of AI for the Legal Profession. The course covers:

  • core concepts of AI
  • how legal professionals are using AI
  • the needs of clients who are using AI, or are affected by AI
  • risks and harms associated with AI
  • how to use AI responsibly in legal practice, including ensuring compliance with professional legal and ethical obligations.

Following the completion of the eLearning course, participants will be invited to a 60-minute live webinar led by HTI experts in AI, regulation and governance. The webinar covers participant questions and comments, and gives an update on the latest technology and policy developments related to the use of AI by legal practitioners in Australia.
