The Centre for Technology in Water and Wastewater (CTWW) is a leading research centre in the field of alternative water sources.
About CTWW
The relative scarcity of water as a resource is a major global issue that is further exacerbated by rapid economic development, population growth, and most significantly, global warming. Through our centre, we seek to develop water and wastewater technologies that can be applied in residential, commercial and industrial environments.
Our team is focused on the development of innovative technologies that deliver abundant supplies of recycled, desalinated and harvested storm water. Through our centre we aim to develop technologies that enable us to:
- Provide water security for community and industry through water reuse and desalination
- Extract and recirculate water, energy, and resources for enhanced economic, environmental, and social benefits
- Use water to improve liveability through the development blue infrastructure
- Reduce the carbon footprint of water intensive activities
While CTWW projects focus largely on urban water supplies and industrial water systems, we also undertake research projects that respond to rural and regional water issues.
World-class water and wastewater research
CTWW has been consistently recognised for the development of world-class research in the water and wastewater field. Our major achievements include:
- Contribution to UTS ranking by US News in 2022 as the best #1st university globally for Water Resources
- Contribute to UTS ranking as 2nd in the world for SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation by 2022 Times Higher Education Impact Ranking
Collaborative approach
At CTWW, we pride ourselves on taking a collaborative approach to research. We have built extensive research networks with individuals, universities and research institutions around the world. We also work closely with a range of industry partners, delivering tailored engineering solutions to help our partners achieve business success.
CTWW is proud to mentor the next generation of water and wastewater engineering leaders. We supervise postgraduate research students at both masters and PhD level. Our students participate in world-class research projects within their chosen research theme.
