Summer school for future leaders in quantum technologies
More than 70 quantum minds joined at the UTS Quantum Computer Science School 2020 last month, to exchange new ideas and concepts in quantum information science.
Around 60 students from local and international universities actively engaged in lectures, workshops and tutorials led by renowned experts in the field of quantum information science, including Prof Mingsheng Ying, Prof Michael Bremner, Dr Simon Devitt and A/Prof Troy Lee from the UTS Centre for Quantum Software, together with Prof Luming Duan and A/Prof Ran Duan from Tsinghua University.
Held 14 to 16 January, the school focused on intriguing topics from quantum programming and quantum supremacy, to quantum simulation, quantum query complexity and matrix multiplication algorithms. On the final day, the students delivered presentations on their solutions to the quantum problems posed by the lecturers at the school.
Both local and international undergraduate and postgraduate students attended the Quantum Computer Science School, with representatives from the University of Technology Sydney, University of Sydney, University of NSW, University of Queensland, Tsinghua University, Southern University of Science and Technology, and Tianjin University. The Quantum Computer Science School has been running since 2017. The school is a collaborative initiative of the Centre for Quantum Software and Information, and the Institute for interdisciplinary Sciences of Tsinghua University, with Dr Youming Qiao as the local organiser.
