A consortium of universities, including UTS, has been awarded $18.4 million to establish 'Quantum Australia' - a new national quantum growth centre to expand Australia's quantum industry and capabilities.

A consortium of universities including UTS has been successful in their bid for the 'Quantum Australia' quantum growth centre, following an open competitive grant application process under the Australian Centre for Quantum Growth program.
The new national centre will improve awareness of quantum tech, promote collaboration between industry and universities, support quantum startups, and connect quantum companies on a national and international scale.
'Quantum Australia' builds on the established impact of the Sydney Quantum Academy (SQA), which brings together USYD, UNSW, UTS and Macquarie University and has been crucial in developing Australia's quantum ecosystem since it was established in 2019.
Led by the University of Sydney, the new centre will see collaboration between Australia's leading research institutions, industry partners and quantum companies, and will help grow Australia’s quantum industry by:
- supporting the adoption, progress and commercialisation of quantum technologies
- creating connections across the quantum ecosystem
- educating the broader community on quantum technologies
- championing responsible and inclusive quantum technology development
- strengthening Australia’s position as a global quantum leader.
This funding will help deliver on the National Quantum Strategy and its vision for a thriving quantum industry in Australia.
