Dr Nengkun Yu, an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) recipient, UTS Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Fellow and core member of the UTS Centre for Quantum Software and Information (UTS:QSI) has just been awarded the 2018 Australian Academy of Science’s J G Russell Award.
Every year the Australian Research Council passes on a list of highly ranked DECRA recipients to the Australian Academy of Science, who then select an awardee.
The J G Russell Award is aimed at financially helping talented young researchers in the basic sciences as a token of the community’s regard for them. It consists of $6000 that can be used towards the costs of equipment, maintenance and travel as a top up to the ARC DECRA award, and is supported by the generosity of the late Miss J Russell.
Dr Yu is employing quantum property testing to develop ultramodern techniques to certify quantum systems and protect quantum information, safeguarding society from security threats to next-generation information technologies.
