Professor Caroline Homer recently visited our colleagues in Papua New Guinea as part of the ongoing PNG WHO Maternal and Child Health Initiative. The purpose of the visit was to meet colleagues and discuss the ongoing work of the Initiative and to assist with the facilitation of a number of workshops. One workshop provided PNG midwives and the Clinical Midwifery Facilitators with direct hands-on experience in inserting contraceptive implants. Another workshop was held just for the PNG Midwifery course coordinators and the educators. The final two days brought everyone together to primarily Enable the sharing of knowledge and information about ways to strengthen midwifery education and maternal and child health care in Papua New Guinea.
The UTS WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Development and the WHO team in PNG assisted with the planning, organisation and facilitation of the workshops.
