At UTS, we pride ourselves in research that is excellent, innovative, and has global impact, tackling some of the greatest challenges facing society today. We integrate our approaches to research and learning, engaging students, industry, government and communities with world-leading research and inquiry-based approaches.

Located in the heart of Sydney’s digital and creative precinct, UTS actively fosters innovation and collaboration — within the university and beyond. Our billion-dollar revitalisation program has transformed our campus into an interconnected urban environment. Our cutting-edge facilities support excellence in teaching and research, and embody our sustainability goals.

We aim to be a driver of social change — both through our research and by fostering a diverse and inclusive educational and working environment. We encourage applications from women, Indigenous Australians, people with disability, those who identify as LGBTIQA+ and applicants from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

UTS is ranked 88th among all universities worldwide (2025 QS World University Rankings) and is classed as the highest-performing university under 50 years of age in Australia and 11th globally (Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2025). The UTS performance indicators are strongly linked to industry innovation and academic excellence. In the 2022 CWTS Leiden Ranking, UTS excelled in international collaboration, ranking 1st in Australia and 84th globally for the proportion of scientific publications with international collaboration. A major contribution to the steady rise in international rankings has been the substantial investment made by UTS in research and research excellence.

UTS support for Chancellor's Research Fellows

UTS Chancellor’s Research Fellows will be supported through a wide range of development programs and initiatives, to assist them with their career development and success:

The Research Excellence and Support Hub (RES Hub) is the UTS ecosystem that provides support and connects research across the University. RES Hub enables UTS to achieve excellent, impactful research, to engage with industry, government and global partners, and cut across different discipline boundaries to drive innovation.

Many of the activities offered through RES Hub are targeted to assist early career academics in the development of knowledge and skills, and also foster long-term connections and collaborations. For instance, through RES Hub, the UTS Aspire Program (internal link – UTS staff only) provides workshops, seminars and activities for UTS Early Career Researchers focused on career planning, funding, recognition and grantsmanship skills, all of which are essential skills for Chancellor’s Research Fellows to succeed.

Importantly, the UTS Early Career Academic Network (UTS ECA Network), internal link – UTS staff only) is a group which Chancellor’s Research Fellows are expected to play a role while at UTS. The UTS ECA Network is a community established to help support early career academics to plan, conduct and participate in teaching and research with impact, in support of the UTS 2027 Strategy.

The aims of the UTS ECA Network are to:

  • Enable ECAs to communicate with the University as a united group on issues in which they have a stake, and contribute to Executive discussions (importantly as a representative on high-level UTS research committees;
  • Provide a forum for ECAs to engage socially and collaborate with others at a similar career stage, in and outside of their discipline area;
  • Provide a pool for identifying emerging ECA talent for participation on UTS committees and working groups;
  • Engage with similar ECA groups/networks nationally and internationally;
  • Provide input to research development providers at UTS on the needs and requirements of the group, including coordinating and promoting programs and initiatives that support the develop of ECA skills and knowledge; and
  • Liaise with relevant internal bodies and external organisations to support ECAs in their transition to established academics.

If appointed as a CRF, you can contact the UTS ECA Network at ECANetwork@uts.edu.au.

Diversity and inclusion

At UTS, diversity and excellence go hand in hand. We are one of just three Australian universities consistently recognised as a Workplace Gender Equality Agency employer of choice.

Our Wingara Indigenous Employment Strategy, UTS Access and Inclusion Plan, Research Equity Initiative, and Bronze accreditation for the SAGE Athena SWAN program (the highest level currently available in Australia) are all part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

We welcome applications from women, Indigenous Australians, people with disability, those who identify as LGBTIQA+, and candidates from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
