UTS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at SXSW Sydney
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences academics, alumni and even students are showcasing work over the course of this huge week. Here's your rundown of everything FASS at the first-ever SXSW Sydney.
The first ever SXSW Sydney kicks off on Monday October 15, and we here in FASS are so excited to welcome this prestigious and exciting event to UTS. As education partner, there is a range of activities happening across the university, including a selection of free events and exhibits.
FASS Academics and Alumni represent
Congratulations to Dr Liz Giuffre, Deborah Szapiro and Dr Julia Scott-Stevenson on being selected as speakers in the official SXSW conference program with their sessions:
- Juggling family and work/life balance in the music industry

UTS House
UTS House is at the centre of SXSW Sydney, hosting a selection of panel discussions, workshops, networking events and talks from leading academics, industry professionals and experts. It is located in the UTS Business School (Building 8) at the heart of Tech Central.
Faculties are working together for UTS House and we've been joined with our creative colleagues in Design, Architecture and Building to deliver a day of insightful discussions on creativity on Wednesday October 18.
The panel discussion Screen 'Content': Sustaining Creativity, co-facilitated by MAP academics Professor Rachel Landers and Associate Professor Alex Munt runs from 2:30 to 3:30pm.
Most of the programs within UTS House are free, however priority access will be given to SXSW Sydney ticket holders for some events. Find the full program and links to register below.
Student Installations
Dr Brent Keogh from Music and Sound Design and Media Business has organised an installation of student works to run during SXSW Sydney. The Student Learning Hub in Building 2, Level 4 will be showcasing a range of student works from Music and Sound Design, Animation Production, and Media Arts and Production on Wednesday October 18 between 10am and 3pm.

FASS x UTS Build x UTS:I
UTS alumna Yiying Lu will be delivering her talk Bridging the World Through Cross-Cultural Creativity and Innovation on Thursday October 19 from 5:30pm.
This talk is presented by UTS BUILD (Beyond UTS International Leadership Development) Program, UTS International and FASS.
Yiying Lu integrates her ten years of experience in the Art, Technology, and Business world for an inspiring storytelling journey. She uses bridges as a metaphor to inspire and empower audiences to be global citizens to bridge divides, bring people together, and engage with cultures from around the world.
