WHO CC Intern - Kerri Gianesi
Kerri is currently studying a Bachelor of Health Science, majoring in Global Health at UTS. She chose to pursue a placement at the Centre lending to her strong passion for health development, with emphasis on the Pacific Region, where Kerri believes health system needs are not widely publicised. As an intern at WHO CC UTS, Kerri applied her skills into researching and curating many of our May 2022 Regional Update stories and International newsletter submissions. Additionally, Kerri aided in creating, formatting and proofreading internal documents and presentations.
One of Kerri’s highlights was helping organise the curriculum review workshop for Diploma of General Nursing and certificate for CHW in May 2022. The workshop was a vital part of the project “Strengthening Health Workforce Education in PNG”. In shadowing and assisting staff, Kerri was able to appreciate the varied skillsets needed to organise such a big event. She assisted with creating sign in sheets and certificates, proofing and updating databases, creating presentations, and compiling printed materials. Assisting with the workshops via Zoom cemented Kerri’s passion for health development, as she found a new appreciation for the importance of creating meaningful relationships with the communities you work with.
Through working closely with staff, Kerri has gained understanding of WHO CC's dynamic role in the development and maintenance of global health equity, locally in the Western Pacific efforts and globally. In her time at the Centre Kerri has begun to consider a master's degree in the means of pursuing work with international health organisations.
Kerri enjoyed her time at the Centre, and felt it was an invaluable experience which has helped her gain vital industry knowledge and skills.
