A first year Architecture project like no other
This hands-on UTS School of Architecture ‘Amphitheatre’ project is unmatched by any other course in the country.
Each year, the entire UTS first year Architecture cohort collaboratively creates the Amphitheatre Design & Build project – part of the Introduction to Construction and Structural Synthesis subject.
UTS Amphitheatre Design & Build Project 2020
It's a project that exposes students to 'live' practice, involving them in the design, fabrication and construction of an architectural project at full scale. This provides every student with a creative framework for the active and critical thinking of the spatial, material and structural consequences of architectural design. As well as an opportunity to apply their knowledge of structural design principles and construction systems, gained throughout the semester, as they take a design idea right through to physical realisation.
The final design you see here is the outcome of a combination of schemes that were submitted to an in-house design competition, run as part of the subject and in which all 229 first year architecture students participated.
Team: Tim Schork, Mohammed Makki, Drew Williamson, Jenna Rowe, Anthony Burke, Jodie Matthews, Dane Voorderhake, and the entire first year architecture cohort
