Completing my research thesis was an achievement that was most rewarding during my time at UTS
What led you to choose UTS:Law for your studies?
A key facet of UTS was the PLT program. Having completed by double degree I was admitted to the NSW Supreme Court following my graduation. It certainly saved a lot of time pursuing further study and also exposed me to practical elements of the law e.g. making an appearance, drafting letters and court documents, etc. It enabled a seamless transfer into the industry. I also was led to choose UTS:Law because I was able to combine it with Medical Science. It was a unique combination that allowed me to pursue a career specialisng in both disciplines. The flexibility of the timetable, the proximity to central transport and the cultural fit of UTS were all additional deciding factors to study at UTS:Law.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your degree? Why?
Completing my research thesis was an achievement that was most rewarding during my time at UTS. I researched patent law in India and critically analysed a decision the Supreme Court controversially held in India. It was an area that I wanted to learn more about and being supervised by a leader in the profession aided that passion. At the end I was invited to present my thesis at the National Honours Conference at UTS.
Where would you like your degree to take your career?
Studying both medical science and law I would love to be in-house counsel for a company in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry.
Are you involved in extra-curricular activities such as the Mentoring program, Brennan program, Mooting, LSS? How has this experience aided your career/personal development?
I was involved in the Brennan program, mooting and negotiation competitions. In 2015 I competed at the International Intellectual property Moot at Oxford University. My experience allowed me to put theory into practice and strengthened my legal research, communication and confidence skills.
What would your advice be for someone who is looking at studying Law at UTS?
Take advantage of the opportunities and flexibility UTS:Law offers. There are a number of skills you can gain from getting involved in activities outside the normal curriculum.
