Four UTS academics have been awarded over $4.4 million in Australian Government funding for their transformative research into engineering, artificial intelligence and construction.
The Australian Research Council (ARC) announced the 2024 Future Fellowships which facilitate research excellence in areas of national interest. Each UTS researcher was awarded more than $1 million.
Associate Professor Min Xu: Advancing Vital Signs Monitoring Technology – her project will create advanced millimetres-wave radar-based systems capable of monitoring respiration, heartbeat, and blood pressure for multiple users simultaneously.
Dr. Jun Li: Enhancing Structural Safety with Eco-Friendly Concrete – his research aims to understand the behaviour of concrete under blast and fire loads, developing structural protective measures and concretes with multi-hazard resistance and low embodied carbon.
Dr. Jianguang Fang: Innovating Damage-Tolerant Cellular Structures – using advanced computational mechanics and topology optimisation, his project aims to design new lightweight and crashworthy cellular structures and enhance transport safety.
Associate Professor Heather Ford: Reimagining AI for Critical Literacy – her project will redesign AI answer systems to foster critical AI literacy, helping citizens understand and critically assess the information provided by these systems and "reclaim the human" in AI systems.
Professor Kate McGrath, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research at UTS, congratulated this year’s Future Fellows from UTS.
