The Highly Cited Researchers list is published every year, and identifies leading global researchers who have demonstrated their influence through the publication of scientific papers that are in the top 1 percent of citations in their field.

Professor Kate McGrath, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), congratulated these outstanding researchers on making the list.

“These academics represent the ‘who’s who’ of researchers at the top of their fields, who are making a major contribution to advancing knowledge across key global issues” Professor McGrath says.

“We’re proud of the dedication and success of these research leaders from fields as diverse as wastewater, data science and renewable energy."

The 13 UTS researchers on the highly cited list are:

  • Dr I.M. Rizwanual Fattah – cross-field
  • Professor Amir Gandomi – computer science
  • Professor Wenshan Guo – biology and biochemistry/ecology and environment
  • Distinguished Professor Dayong Jin – cross-field
  • Distinguished Professor T.M. Indra Mahlia – engineering
  • Professor Jose Merigo – cross-field
  • Distinguished Professor Huu Hao Ngo – biology and biochemistry/ecology and environment
  • Professor Bing-Jie Ni – cross-field
  • Dr Hwai Chyuan Ong – engineering
  • Dr Mofijur Rahman – cross-field
  • Professor Arridina Susan Silitonga – engineering
  • Distinguished Professor Guoxiu Wang – chemistry/materials science
  • Professor John Zhou – ecology

Nine UTS researchers also appeared as top researchers in their fields in the recent The Australian annual Research magazine from data in Google Scholar from a total of 250 academic fields.

The listed UTS academics were Distinguished Professor Jay Guo (electromagnetism), Emeritus Professor Alistair Pennycook (foreign language learning/humanitites, literature and arts), Professor Xiaojun Qiu (acoustics and sound), Dr Yam Siwakoti (power engineering), Dr Amie Steel (alternative and traditional medicine), Professor Qilin Wang (water supply and treatment), Distinguished Professor Chengqi Zhang (databases and information systems), Dr Yi Zhang (library and information science), and Dr Forest Zhu (microelectronics and electronic packaging).
