Find your subject information in Canvas

Autumn session is just around the corner, so get ready and set yourself up for success by checking out your subject sites in Canvas! From Monday 10 February, all the Canvas sites for your Autumn session subjects will be published and available for you to access.

What is subject information?

Subject information is a tab in your subject site in Canvas. It has all the high-level information about your subject in one place, such as:

  • How the subject is being delivered
  • Total workload hours
  • Number of credit points
  • Result type
  • Subject learning outcomes (SLOs)
  • Content (topics) covered
  • Details for each assessment, including what type of assessment, how it’s assessed, its weight, and what SLOs it assesses

Subject information has replaced PDF subject outlines which were previously embedded into Canvas.

What isn't included in subject information?

There are some extra details about your subjects which aren't covered in the subject information tab, but can still be found in Canvas. These include:

  • Assessment due dates and extra guidance on assessment approaches and submissions (in the Assignments tab)
  • Reading lists, including required and recommended readings (in the Reading List tab)
  • Important information on UTS assessment procedures, extensions or where to get help, academic integrity, GenAI, and more (in the Important guidance page in the Get started module)

Make sure to keep up to date across your Canvas sites for this information, as well as any announcements and extra information your subject coordinator shares with you.

How can you save a copy of subject information?

If you started studying at UTS prior to this year, you might remember you could download PDF subject outlines from Canvas. Saving a copy is a slightly different process now, but still easy to do!

You still can (and should!) print out or save a PDF of your subject information page for every subject you take. This is handy is you want to apply for recognition of prior learning or exchange later on, or if Canvas is ever unavailable right when you need it.

From the subject information tab in Canvas, select the ‘Print Subject information’ button. This will create a PDF version of the subject-specific information, which you can save or print for your records.

Need any help using Canvas?

Here are a few resources to support you using Canvas this session.

  • Canvas 24/7 online and phone support
  • IT Support: log a ticket for online IT support, phone 02 9514 2222 or drop-in to Building 10, Level 2, room 212 (CB10.02.212)
  • UTS Canvas Student Guide

Make sure to check out (and bookmark!) Canvas to ensure you set yourself up for success this Autumn session!
