The Australian Research Council has awarded almost $5 million in funding for an Industrial Transformation Training Centre geared towards establishing the next generation of quantum computing experts.
The ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Future Leaders in Quantum Computing (FLiQC) will pinpoint Australia's future quantum leaders and equip them with capabilities across the full quantum 'stack', advanced quantum algorithms and computer architectures.
Based at the University of Sydney and led by Professor Stephen Bartlett, QSI's Associate Professor Troy Lee, Dr Marika Kieferova and Dr Yuval Sanders have been named CIs on the project from UTS. Alongside USyd and UTS, UNSW, Macquarie and UWA complete the five university consortium.
"It is very exciting to be a part of this ARC training centre, which will host three PhD students and two Postdoctoral researchers at UTS. We have curated a great experience for these students by partnering with over 15 Australian companies in the quantum computing industry, and giving them access to leading experts across the quantum stack via our five university partnership," says UTS lead CI Troy Lee.
The ARC Acting Chief Executive Officer, Dr Richard Johnson, said Research Hubs and Training Centres funded under the ARC’s Industrial Transformation Research Program support and foster industry-university research collaboration in areas capable of driving innovation in Australian industries and developing industry-focused researchers.
