Dr Victoria Shepherd is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Trials Research, School of Medicine, Cardiff University, where she leads a pioneering programme of research focused on the ethical and methodological issues surrounding research involving adults with impaired capacity to consent. She is involved in a number of care home research studies, and has extensive clinical experience in critical care nursing.
In March 2024, Dr Shepherd visited Australia as part of a Churchill Fellowship on planning ahead for research participation. Her three-week visit to Australia concluded with an invitational symposium at UTS on 21 March 2024, Advance Planning for Research: Building Evidence for Practice. The event brought together researchers, clinicians, advocates and representatives from stakeholder organisations, all with shared interests in research participation for people with cognitive impairment. Strategies to support advance planning for research participation were a key focus of this event. The symposium was an opportunity to develop collaborations that build evidence for strategies to investigate advance research planning among priority populations, especially people taking part in dementia and ageing-related research.
