3-Minute Thesis
In a striking demonstration of brevity, ISF PhD students encapsulate their extensive theses into a concise three-minute presentation.
The Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition celebrates the exciting research conducted by Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Professional Doctorate (Research) students. Developed by the University of Queensland, it is an international academic competition aimed at cultivating students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills.
An 80,000-word thesis would take nine hours to read aloud but the Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) PhD students condensed their theses and presented their research in just three minutes.
PhD student Prakash Paudel won the ISF heat and goes on to represent ISF at the UTS 3MT final. PhD student Simon Ross won The People’s Choice vote and had the opportunity to compete at the Wildcard 3-minute thesis competition for a place in the UTS 3MT final.
Prakash’s research focuses on conflict-sensitivity in international development interventions in post-conflict fragility of Nepal. Simon’s research focuses on water and sanitation infrastructure: innovative planning for the Asia Pacific.
These achievements mark a significant moment for ISF's research community, highlighting the dedication of our PhD students and their ability to share their impactful work effectively.
