To ensure this was achieved, UTS employed a specialist Educational Designer to analyse the learning outcomes for the Master of Orthoptics and design best practice delivery methods.
The UTS Master of Orthoptics employs practice-based teaching and learning approaches in the following ways:
Practice-based teaching
With a functioning orthoptics clinic on-site, the UTS Orthoptics course is centred around clinical practice. An optimised mix of tutorials, practical workshops, simulated scenarios, interdisciplinary forums and clinical placements ensure that students apply theory as they learn. Small class sizes mean academics have time to provide individual attention and critique.
Integrated subject material
Theory makes sense when it is applied. Students build a comprehensive understanding of the theory through its relevance and application to real clinical scenarios. To facilitate this, subject material has been integrated across the Masters program and assessments require students to solve problems and apply their theoretical knowledge.
Simulation
With user experience at the heart of the curriculum design, we have integrated technology and multimedia into all aspects of the program. Students will use advanced orthoptics equipment and state-of-the-art AV in our clinical areas and a suite of online resources at home or in our student spaces. This ensures that eLearning and face-to-face instruction contribute seamlessly to each student's learning process.
Clinical placements
