Overview

The Tom Sylva Award was established in memory of former UTS Law student, Tom Sylva, by his family and friends.

The purpose of the award is to assist undergraduate Law students who have a disability and/or ongoing medical condition that affects their studies, and a demonstrated commitment to social justice and human rights, with the cost of law text books.

Who is eligible?

Applicants must be/have:

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor of Laws at UTS (single or combined degree); and
  • Apply using the Tom Sylva Award Online Application Form, and
  • Have a disability and/or ongoing medical condition

Selection process

  • Motivation to succeed in the chosen UTS Faculty of Law course.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and human rights.
  • Preference may also be given to students who have experienced any long-term barriers and/or personal and/or financial hardship, including the following:
    • Indigenous Australian
    • Refugee status
    • Sole parent responsibilities
    • Carer responsibilities
