Don’t drop out, drop in! What to consider before census date

With census date approaching (Friday 19 March 2021), some students may have doubts about continuing a subject or program. The census date is the last day that you can withdraw from a subject without academic penalty or financial liability. It’s also the last day you can:
- lodge an online notification of course withdrawal
- lodge an online application for leave of absence
- lodge declaration of Australian citizenship or permanent residency – this documentation may affect the cost of your fees or your ability to defer your fees to HELP
- submit an electronic Commonwealth Assistance Form (CAF) for 'Commonwealth Support and HECS-HELP' or 'FEE-HELP', including supplying a valid tax file number and Unique Student Identifier (USI).
Before you decide to withdraw or take an extended leave of absence, it’s a good idea to speak to someone who might be able to help you with your concerns and make sure you’re considering all the options available to you.
You can consult your lecturer, tutor, academic advisor, academic liaison officer or subject coordinator, and there are also professional sessions available with the UTS Counselling Service.
You can request a specific census session – time is set aside for census appointments every day – and the UTS Counselling Service is available via phone, Zoom or in person.
To book an appointment you can contact the service by phone on +61 2 9514 1177, email student.services@uts.edu.au or walk in on level 6 of Building 1.
