6 reasons to join a study group
Juggling uni with work, family, friends and hobbies can be overwhelming at times, but it doesn’t have to be. With the right people, tools and skills to help you manage all the ups and downs, you’ll be on your way to getting the most out of your time at UTS. That’s where UTS Study Groups come in!
Study Groups are groups of students from your faculty that meet regularly with an experienced student guide to socialise, learn new skills, attend events and get insider tips on all things UTS.
They take place during the first 8 weeks of session, you can sign up to a block of 4 weeks, or all 8 weeks depending on your interests and commitments.
Here are 6 reasons joining a Study Group is your ticket to getting the most out of your time at UTS.
1. Make friends with like-minded peers
When you sign up for a Study Group you’ll be paired with other students in your faculty who have started uni at the same time as you and meet weekly with an experienced guide with the same interests as you. You'll also have the opportunity to meet up with other Study Groups for free social mixers with games, activities and free food!
2. Get the lowdown on uni life
Study Groups are led by current students who have been studying at UTS for a few years and know exactly how things work. Who better to recommend the best coffee on campus, know which club or society has the biggest meet-ups, or even where to reach out to for support when things go wrong than students who have experienced it all before?
3. Understand all the services UTS has to offer
It can be confusing knowing the best place to turn for help. Study Groups provide a safe space to experience the challenges of university and be supported by people in the know. Your Study Group guides can help you find the right service to turn to for support with assignments, exams, financial assistance, health and wellbeing, IT issues and more.
4. Be the first to know about events and opportunities
Stay in the loop when it comes to events across campus – you'll even get the chance to attend some with your Study Group, so you’ll always know a friendly face.
5. Learn the skills to balance uni, work and social life
While you won’t be reading from a textbook in a Study Group, you will get the opportunity to learn and develop skills that will make juggling study, work and your social life a breeze. Learn how to manage your time, set goals (and keep them!), overcome procrastination and what to do with feedback in regular micro-training sessions with your Study Group.
6. Make moves with your career
If you’re thinking about the skills you need to craft your career or looking for a job, Study Groups can link you to the best tools, where to find job opportunities and who to go to for one-to-one career advice. Loved being part of a Study Group and want to become a guide? What a way to boost your resume!
