About the Speaker
Dr Andrew Mears is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of SwitchDin. He is an engineer and innovator with more than 20 years of experience in the areas of renewable energy and commercialisation covering Asia & Pacific, Africa and Australia. This includes project engineering and product development, strategy consulting, and investment program management.
Throughout his career, Dr Mears has held a number of consulting and advisory positions in AUSAID, the United Nations Development Programme and The World Bank.
In 2014, he founded SwitchDin, a company that provides software and hardware solutions for managing distributed energy resources. In particular, rooftop solar battery storage.
Dr Mears is also one of the co-founders of the Newcastle-based clean tech and smart city start-up incubator, Eighteen04.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering, Manufacturing and Process Control, from the University of Newcastle. Dr Mears has completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Science here at UTS. He also lectured here at UTS for a number of years in management, practice and policy for the then Faculty of Engineering.
In 2011, Dr Mears was awarded the University of Newcastle’s Alumni Award for International Leadership.
