About the Speaker
Professor David Currow is the Chief Cancer Officer and Chief Executive Officer of the Cancer Institute NSW, the NSW Government’s cancer control agency, and the Professor of Palliative Medicine in the Centre for Cardiovascular and Chronic Care at UTS.
He is an internationally recognised expert in palliative care research and in improving the delivery of palliative care. He is the principal investigator for the Palliative Care Clinical Studies Collaborative which has conducted studies involving more than eighteen thousand palliative care patients.
Professor Currow is a former president of Palliative Care Australia and the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia and was the foundation Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Australia, the Commonwealth's cancer control agency.
He has published more than 460 peer-reviewed articles, editorials and books. In recognition of his contribution to research and clinical leadership, Professor Currow has received accolades from the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Care, and the Palliative Care Council of South Australia.
Professor Currow is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and of the Australian Academy of Health and Medicine Sciences. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Newcastle, Master of Public Health from the University of Sydney, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Flinders University.
