Professor Debra Jackson
About the speaker
Our speaker today is Professor Debra Jackson.
Debra is a Professor of Nursing and Associate Head of the World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Development, at UTS Faculty of Health. She is an experienced writing mentor and coach and has over 350 publications including journal articles, books and book chapters.
Debra leads research programs in adolescent and family health, with a particular focus on parenting; and workforce development and adversity centred on leadership and workplace culture. A key objective of her work is to enhance the well-being of vulnerable and socially marginalised groups and through the development of sustainable and culturally sensitive supportive interventions.
She is a committed and experienced mentor and supervisor of developing researchers, scholars and leaders. She is currently a primary supervisor for eight research degree candidates; and has supervised 30 research students to completion, and examined numerous theses for national and international universities.
In 2007, she won the Vice Chancellors Award for Outstanding Research Higher Degree Supervision at the University of Western Sydney. In addition to being an active supervisor of doctoral students, she also teaches Masters coursework programs at UTS.
Debra holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Flinders University and a Master of Nursing from the University of Sydney.
