About the speaker
Our speaker today is Ms Sam Mostyn.
Sam has enjoyed a diverse career across business, politics, science and the arts, the not for sector and sports. She now serves as a non-executive director on the boards of Virgin Australia, Transurban, Citigroup Australia and the CoverMore. Since 2005 she has served as a Commissioner with the Australian Football League, the first woman to be appointed to that role.
Her other roles include serving on the boards of the Australia Council for the Arts, the Sydney Theatre Company, Carriageworks and Australian Volunteers International. She is the President of the Australian Council for International Development, and until recently, was a Commissioner with the National Mental Health Commission. For many years Sam served as a Trustee with the Australian Museum, including a time as Presiden.
Sam is recognized as a sustainability leader, with a wide range of interests encompassing climate change, gender and diversity and reconciliation. Her sustainability work includes currently supporting Michael O’Loughlin and Adam Goodes with their philanthropic work through the GO Foundation, while acting as the Deputy Chair of the Diversity Council of Australia and served on the board of Reconciliation Australia.
In the past, Sam was instrumental in the development of a corporate, social and environmental sustainability plan for Insurance Australia Group. She worked with the Sex Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick on the Review of the Treatment of Women in the Australian Defense Force. She was appointed to the inaugural National Sustainability Council, the board of ClimateWorks Australia, chairing the Stakeholder Advisory Council of the CSIRO Climate Adaptation Flagship, the NSW Climate Change Council, and an advisory role with the 1 Million Women Climate Campaign. Sam has also had a long involvement with the St James Ethics Centre and the Global Foundation.
