RoboField explained
Express your Interest
A career in robotics is more than just making robots. It requires a broad understanding of the capabilities and limitations of robotic technology, hands on experience, following best practice, systematic maintenance, documentation, teamwork, problem solving and creativity.
RoboField is a collaboration between the UTS Robotics Institute and the UTS Robotics Society that aims to bridge the gap between students and robotics researchers.
Students participating in RoboField will be provided an opportunity to use real robots, under the support and supervision of mentors, to learn new robotics skills or to develop existing ones. Groups will be formed with projects tailored to your interests and learning goals. Additional resources such as 3D printers will also be provided.
It is expected that students participating in RoboField are enthusiastic and proactive to make the most of this opportunity. It is our goal to not just run projects, but to create a club-like atmosphere where skills, knowledge and passion are shared in a fun environment.
Learning opportunities
- Learning about the basics of robotics
- Developing robotic systems
- Programming robots to perform tasks
- Diagnosing and fixing robotic system faults
- Managing, maintaining and documenting robotic systems
- Sensing and actuation
- Programming skills including Python, C++, Robot Operating System
- 3D printing and robot prototyping
- Electronics
Applicable knowledge
This project is open to all UTS students with an interest in robotics, but is best suited for students studying mechatronic, mechanical, electrical or IT engineering. It is recommended that students be members of the UTS Robotics Society to make use of that community as a support base.
How many places are available?
There are ten (10) student positions available.
Why is this important?
The UTS Robotics Institute is a leader in the area of robotics research, developing robots and enabling technologies to solve problems in a variety of applications. RoboField provides an opportunity for students to gain valuable hands-on experience, working alongside roboticists in a real research environment.
RoboField provides a pathway for students to undertake Capstone projects with the UTS Robotics Institute, or Masters/PhD research in robotics.
