Student Additive Manufacturing explained
express your interest
This project involves the development of additive manufacturing research platforms by student teams. To date, a 5 axis, large bed FDM machine with exchangeable plastic filament and syringe extruders has been designed, assembled and tested. Ongoing projects include an industrial inkjet drop-on-demand based UV resin printer and a 6 axis robot arm FDM printer.
Some of the goals of this project that students will need to have a keen interest in are:
- Develop innovative research platforms for additive manufacturing
- Explore options for integration of additive manufacturing in modern Industry 4.0 production lines
- Support and grow interest in additive manufacturing
Learning opportunities
- Familiarity with traditional 3D printing.
- Strong skill in a discipline (mechanical, mechatronics, electrical, software) of engineering, Multiple areas of expertise is desirable.
- Strong work ethic, ability to work in a team, ability to manage tasks and deliver on time.
Applicable knowledge
This project is suitable for students in their 4th year or beyond.
How many places are available?
There are three (3) student positions available.
Why is this important?
This project supports the development of mechanical, mechatronic, electronic and software engineering skills in students through practical application. There is an opportunity to explore new and novel printing technologies and approaches, as well as provide research platforms to enable academic research that is not possible with commercial printing platforms.
