On June 11 2015 ACRI hosted a seminar on the Chinese concept of 'face' presented by Dr Carl Hinze.

Face is an important concept to understand for anyone engaging in business in China. How is this concept manifested in Chinese language? What is the role of ‘face’ in building and maintaining relationships of trust in China? How does ‘face’ impact negotiations with Chinese parties?

Dr Carl Hinze

Dr Hinze, partner at Holding Redlich is the author of a PhD thesis on mianzi and lian (the Chinese concepts of ‘face’), which he subsequently put into practice during his 10 years as a legal practitioner in China.
