Vale Rowan Trayler
It is with deep sadness that the UTS Business School announces the passing of our colleague, and friend to many, Rowan Trayler.
Rowan's journey with the UTS Business School dates back to the 1980s, an era when the institution was known as the New South Wales Institute of Technology. His contributions were pivotal in shaping the School's evolution into the globally renowned establishment it is today.
Rowan's dedication and research prowess, particularly in the field of banking, left an enduring mark on our institution. His collaborative efforts with Associate Professor Ross Jones, a former Deputy Chairman of APRA, resulted in seminal publications in journals such as the Journal of Financial Regulation and Economic Papers. His insightful teachings and curriculum innovations earned him prestigious Learning and Teaching Citations, evidence of his commitment to education that spanned over several decades.
An exemplary educator, Rowan's influence extended beyond the classroom. His co-authorship of the widely acclaimed textbook 'Fundamentals of Corporate Finance,' now in its 8th edition, remains a cornerstone of financial education across multiple Australian universities. Even after his formal retirement, Rowan's passion for sharing knowledge brought him back as a casual educator, influencing the lives of countless students with his wisdom and expertise.
Beyond academia, Rowan was known for his love of motorcycles and skiing. His warm and affable nature made him a beloved figure among colleagues, and his personality made post-work gatherings a delight for all.
On behalf of the Finance Department and the UTS Business School, we extend our deepest condolences to Rowan’s family. Rowan will be greatly missed by all who knew him and remains regarded as a highly respected colleague and friend.
