5 reasons why you should join MedSoc today!
The UTS Medical Society (MedSoc) is a dynamic club that aims to unite students from all health-related degrees through opportunities that develop their academic skills and professional development attributes, while maintaining a fun and well-balanced lifestyle with exciting social events. MedSoc members are a close-knit group of like-minded individuals whose ultimate goal in life is to help people, and being a part of MedSoc ensures they have a bit of fun and gain some professional experience while completing their degrees.
If this sounds like you and you want to know more, read on for 5 reasons why you should join MedSoc today!
1. Discounted prices on essential health related courses
MedSoc partners with businesses and foundations such as Red Cross and GAMSAT tutoring companies to bring you free or heavily discounted events and courses that can further your health-related degree. These courses include: first aid certificates, GAMSAT tutoring seminars, health-related symposiums and masterclasses.
2. Develop professional connections
We hold networking events every semester for students to meet and develop connections with industry professionals in health-related careers. Areas of expertise include medicine, biotechnology, nursing, neuroscience, orthoptics, genetic counselling and more!
In addition to gaining knowledge about your career options, you also have the opportunity to undertake internships or training with these industry professionals. We’ve also been developing some new volunteering initiatives, so stay tuned and join MedSoc to find out more on how to help our community.
3. Maximise your academic success
MedSoc wants to ensure all of our members reach academic success and be motivated with their studies. You can expect study groups throughout the semester with snacks, chilled out music and peer tutors to help you study and motivate you along the way! This is the perfect opportunity to make the most out of your study time surrounded by motivated individuals with academic aspirations like yourself.
4. Meet new like-minded people
MedSoc loves to collaborate with different societies to bring new and fun events every year. We collaborate every year with the UTS Science Society, UTS Forensic Science Club and the UTS Biohacking Society to bring to you events such as Science Camp, Pub Crawls and the End of Year Science Ball! These events are key social events in the MedSoc Calendar and are great ways to make new friends from different faculties.
We have also partnered with the Creative Intelligence and Innovation (BCII) Society on boat cruise events, and are currently planning a camping trip with Intents (camping) Society. Our collaboration with other societies will ensure you have the most exciting and diverse university social life!
5. Have some fun!
Along with our academic, professional and collaborative events, MedSoc runs smaller events like trivia, welcome drinks, movie screenings and pizza parties to get our members together to have a bit of fun and a well-deserved break from their studies. These events are essential in maintaining a well-balanced lifestyle and are a whole lot of fun!
If you would like to take advantage of these amazing events and opportunities, come and check us out at our O’day stall and receive a free MedSoc goodie bag when you sign up to our society! We hope to see you at our events this year, and best of luck with your studies.
