Associate Professors Willa Huston and Hui Chen took part in the 'Outcomes to Impact' competition focused on translating research outcomes to end user impact. Together with 25 other researchers from eight team they took part in a series of training workshops to develop their research idea, from the eyes of the end users as beneficiaries of their research.
Will Houston’s project was one of the two winning projects to receive funding towards implementation. Together with her PhD student Rami Mazraani, Huston’s project aims to develop a molecular test to diagnose pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). Their research has identified biomarkers that can be developed to form an accurate and consistent molecular diagnostic test for PID, a serious condition that can lead to damaging infertility or ectopic pregnancies.
Associate Professor Chen led the project that was selected for the runner-up award. Together with her UTS collaborators Mehra Haghi and Brian Oliver, she is leveraging over 3 years of pre-clinical studies to developed a pharmaceutical formulation to address obesity.
