Research to tackle antibiotic resistance secures grant
Associate Professor Maurizio Labbate from the School of Life Sciences is part of a UTS team that has secured a $1m grant from the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF). Associate Professor Labbate’s research is focused on how lateral gene transfer facilitates the emergence of bacterial pathogens and their resistance to antimicrobials. He will combine his expertise with a team of 11 other UTS researchers to develop an AI-powered network for the surveillance and mitigation of antimicrobial resistance.
