UTS to evaluate NDSS
UTS has been appointed by Diabetes Australia to evaluate the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS).
UTS has been appointed by Diabetes Australia to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) [opens external link] over the next three years.
Led by Professor David Sibbritt, Head of the School of Public Health, the team will comprise researchers from both the School of Public Health and the UTS Business School.
The team will undertake an independent, objective evaluation of NDSS programs, services, and subsidised products to support ongoing continuous improvement of the delivery of the NDSS.
The NDSS is an initiative of the Australian Government administered by Diabetes Australia which aims to enhance the capacity of people with diabetes to understand and self-manage their life with diabetes, so that they can live a life in which the impact of diabetes is minimised and their overall health outcome is improved.
Professor Sibbritt says that this is an opportunity to improve the way people with diabetes self-manage their condition.
By evaluating the NDSS programs, services, and products, we aim to provide essential advice to Diabetes Australia and the Australian Government that will improve the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the NDSS, and ultimately enhance the capacity of people with diabetes to understand and self-manage their life with diabetes.

To undertake the evaluation, the team will engage with various stakeholders, including people living with diabetes, their family members or carers, health professionals, diabetes organisations, and local, state and federal governments.
By evaluating these stakeholders’ experiences with the NDSS, the team will aim to determine the effectiveness, efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the services, programs and products for people with diabetes across Australia.
Professor Sibbritt says that the awarding of this tender is an incredible opportunity to bring together research and community.
“UTS is committed to supporting our communities to thrive, economically, socially and culturally. The successful awarding of this tender to our world-class team of researchers and clinicians will allow us to help fulfil this commitment.”
