Public health researchers are urging Australians to roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated against COVID-19.
A barrage of headlines, low levels of community transmission, the level of scrutiny given to the cases of clots and very frequent revisions to the COVID-19 vaccination program have made for a heap of misinformation about AstraZeneca.
However, data is emerging that compares the effectiveness of the two COVID-19 vaccines in our vaccination program in the real world as opposed to clinical trials.
A Public Health England study released this week, based on the rollout of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine, demonstrated that one dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine results in 80 per cent lower risk of death from the disease.
A study from Scotland found a comparable reduction in COVID-19 hospital admissions post vaccination with both vaccines (Pfizer: 91 per cent v AstraZeneca: 88 per cent).
Based on these examples of real-life data, let’s flip the public messaging and highlight how many people receive the AstraZeneca without any issues and roll up our sleeves.
