It has been announced that UTS:Health will received two awards and one citation as part of the 2016 Learning and Teaching Awards. Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Shirley Alexander announced the recipients of the awards at the conclusion of the Learning and Teaching Forum on Tuesday November 22, 2016.
Staff members Caroline Homer, Allison Cummins, Christine Catling, Rosemarie Hogan, Rachel Smith, Maralyn Foureur and Joanne Gray shared the Team Teaching award for outstanding contributions to learning and teaching; and exemplary and sustained innovation in learning and teaching and curriculum innovation, through collaborative, team-based approaches.
The Faculty also received the award for the Integration of Indigenous Professional Capabilities into Curriculum (shared by Joanne Gray, Claudia Virdun, Tamara Power, Angela Phillips, Anna Doab, Rachel Smith and Jennifer Newman). The award recognises Faculty of Health initiatives which have contributed to the development of students’ Indigenous professional capabilities. These initiatives include the development of Indigenous Graduate Attributes and embedding these attributes into the curriculum; and the development of courses or subjects with a strong Indigenous focus.
Finally, academic staff members Tamara Power, Carolyn Hayes, Claudia Virdun and Haidee White received a UTS Learning and Teaching citation for their research paper ‘Plastic with Personality – inspiring and motivating undergraduate nurses’ engagement with manikins and flipped learning through the introduction of online audio-visual vignettes in Medical-Surgical Nursing’. The publication was named Best Paper at the NETNEP 6th International Nurse Education Conference in Brisbane earlier this year.
The awards will be presented at the annual Learning and Teaching Showcase in 2017.
