To what extent will a bone fracture affect your mortality?
New research reveals that the age of a person's skeleton can determine an individual's increased risk of mortality.
Researchers have recently revealed that doctors can now gauge the extent to which a bone fracture can lead to an individual’s early death in a new concept titled the ‘Skeletal Age’, derived from an extensive study that targeted more than 1.6 million adults.
Lead researcher from the School of Biomedical Engineering Professor Tuan Nguyen revealed that the rate of premature death especially for patients who have suffered hip fractures is on the rise by 30%, highlighting the importance of this metric to assess the effect of bone breakability and to enhance doctor-patient communication to calculate future risks especially concerning osteoporosis.
